Paper #9 maths section: 9/18 over 8 questions, 18 min against a 17-min guide, 0 blank, all attempted. Full marks on compound area (Q7, 3/3, 1 min) and HCF (Q8, 2/2, by evaluating both numbers and listing factors — 5 min), estimate right (Q2). Marks lost: Q1 map scale 0/1 (0.5×4 written as 20, unchecked); Q3 order of operations 1/2 (order right, 3² evaluated as 6); Q4 percentage increase 1/2 (10%+5% found, answer 9 = the increase, not the new price); Q5 inequality 1/3 (4(x−1) expanded as 4x−1, then collected and solved correctly from that line); Q6 changing ratio 0/4 (one restating sentence, no method, 1 min, not returned to). Working shown on every question. Three of the lost marks are slips with 15 min unused on the clock.
Carried from 13 Oct unchanged: cold check of x>3 drawn and x>7, then dividing by a negative (owed since 12 Oct). New from paper #9, after that: (1) 3² means 3×3 — ask her cold what 3², 5², 2³ are before any order-of-operations item (N6-N7); (2) expanding 4(x−1): multiply every term — two with hints then three alone, then one inequality with a bracket (A4/A17); (3) percentage increase: the question asks for the new price — read the answer line back before writing (N11-N12, already planned); (4) changing-ratio problems (R7-R8, 'blue stays 5 parts'): one worked example then two alone, once inequalities are closed; (5) HCF from index form (N4): one example, lowest power of each shared prime, not urgent. Homework 8 photographed and handed in 14 Oct; Dad marks it.
| Topic | Name | Change | Evidence recorded |
|---|---|---|---|
| R1-R3 | Secure → Secure | paper #9 Q1: 0/1, loss=technique — multiplied by 4 correctly but 0.5×4 written as 20, not checked with 15 min unused | |
| N14 | Secure → Secure | paper #9 Q2: 1/1, loss=none — rounded to 79÷0.4 and picked 200 inside a timed section; 3 min on a 1-min guide | |
| N1-N3 | Developing → Developing | paper #9 Q3: 1/2, loss=knowledge — order of operations correct and shown inside a timed section, but 3² evaluated as 6 (squaring as doubling) cost the answer | |
| N6-N7 | Developing → Developing | paper #9 Q3: 3² written as 3*3=6 in the working — a square evaluated as a double under time | |
| N11-N12 | Developing → Developing | paper #9 Q4: 1/2, loss=technique — 10% and 5% of 60 found (M1), answered 9 (the increase) where the new price was asked; no multiplier; 4 min on a 2-min guide | |
| A22 | Developing → Developing | paper #9 Q5: 1/3, loss=knowledge — 4(x−1) expanded as 4x−1; from that line collected terms and solved correctly (3x<12, x<4), inequality sign kept, working shown, 1 min | |
| A17 | Developing → Developing | paper #9 Q5: 1/3, loss=knowledge — first timed sighting: bracket expansion multiplied only the first term; the solve from her own line was valid | |
| R7-R8 | Secure → Secure | paper #9 Q6: 0/4, loss=knowledge — wrote 'for every 4 red there are 5 blue' in 1 min, no parts, no method; not returned to with 15 min unused | |
| G14-G16 | Developing → Developing | paper #9 Q7: 3/3, loss=none — 80−12=68 with every line shown in 1 min when the question asked for working; units written cm*2 | |
| N4 | Secure → Secure | paper #9 Q8: 2/2, loss=none — evaluated A=600, B=180 and listed factors to reach 60; did not use the index form; 5 min on a 2-min guide |
