Session 76

2026-10-06 · 2026-W41 ✓ reviewed

What happened

My Last Duchess was opened and read; she reached the poem's meaning through narrowed questions, and the timed paragraph from her own plan stopped at one sentence. The poem block's work was done early at her own start, 09:19-10:36 (77 min, two breaks), during the maths slot and ahead of the 11:00 Literature slot it is logged against. Starter, no notes, 5 items, 09:19-09:34 (15 min, over the 10-minute cap): London first line with wander, charter'd and street right but 'tho'' and a lower-case i; 'borrowed robes' = the title belongs to someone else, right cold; 'the greatest' = 'Thane of cawdor', wrong as on 5 Oct, king then told; father, killed, witch spelled right (plural not produced); ABAB at once, no answer to the open effect question with the cue beside it, 'trapped' at once from a two-way choice. My Last Duchess: whole poem read in 8 minutes with a one-line setup; her answer gave the Duke's imagined telling-off ('exceed the dark' for mark), not what the Duchess did. By chunk: four things counted with 'sunset' in her own word, and the nine-hundred-year-old name in a full sentence - 2/2 first time. What annoyed him: off target on the open form, 'everybody' from a choice, then 'everyone got her smile' from a sentence starter. The commands: two wrong open answers, then 'dead' and 'B' (killed) from choices. Quotation copied alone with every word right (colon for the semicolon). Three plan lines alone, dictated, 2 minutes, Browning as subject. Paragraph, 8 minutes, book closed, typed: one sentence at 6 minutes (claim plus close reference; no quotation, no effect); asked to carry on, a non-answer after 10 minutes; with a starter carrying the quotation she gave the effect (the Duke seems too proud). 22 items set, 22 answered, 0 blank at close, 2 initial non-answers. Her close named the next task only. Session 57's read and timed paragraph are done; its London context teach is carried forward. Not run: exit recall, the poem's ending, London context.

Planned next

BLOCK SHAPE (v24, parent 6 Oct) — every Lit block: 1) 8 min starter, 3 cold questions on what she read at home since the last block. 2) Teach ONE named knowledge topic, 12 min. 3) Unaided confirmation on it, 8 min, BEFORE the break — never last. 4) Paragraph work after; cuttable. No first reading inside a block; set the home reading at the end every time. MACBETH QUEUE (#5), one per block: S1.2 plot in 10-12 beats, then S1.3 character cards, S2.1 themes, S3.1 quotation bank. THU 8 OCT (#24, poetry): starter — 'the greatest' = which title (cold, 3rd ask); spell witches, kills; London first line (thro', capital I). Close P1.04: cold recall of what annoyed the Duke and what the commands were, then the ending (who the visitor is). Confirmation before the break. Paragraph after, one plan line per message, quotation inside. MON 12 OCT (#5): teach S1.2 off the Save My Exams plot summary; confirm by 10 beats written unaided before the break. If Act 1 Sc 3 is read at home, resolve 62 and 72.

Unfinished unfinished · closed

Exit recall (2 questions, book closed) not run; her paragraph has no quotation inside it and no effect sentence written unaided; the poem's ending (who the visitor is, the next marriage) not read for meaning; London context teach still owed (carried from 29 Sep, session 57).

Unfinished: Exit recall (2 questions, book closed) not run; her paragraph has no quotation inside it and no effect sentence written unaided; the poem's ending (who the visitor is, the next marriage) not read for meaning; London context teach still owed (carried from 29 Sep, session 57). (P1.04, K1, P1.02) — closed 2026-10-08 by session 86: completed in session 86

What this session changed

TopicNameChangeEvidence recorded
P1.04Not started → Gapopened - taught, confirmed in part; apply below the bar, exit recall not run. Whole-poem read (8 min): answer gave the Duke's imagined rebuke, not what the Duchess did. Chunk questions 2/2 first time (four things, 'sunset'; nine-hundred-year-old name). What annoyed him and the commands: 0/3 on the open form, 4/4 from two-way choices, say-back 'everyone got her smile' from a starter. Timed paragraph: 1 sentence, no quotation, no effect. notstarted to gap (touched means moved).
K1Developing → Developingapplied, unaided and timed, from her own three plan lines (dictated alone in 2 min): the 8-minute paragraph on My Last Duchess, book closed, gave 1 sentence at 6 min - claim plus close reference in her own words, no quotation, no effect; below Level 3 as it stands. Asked to carry on: non-answer after 10 min. Effect ('too proud') only from a starter carrying the quotation. Second unaided timed task to stop at one sentence (28 Sep placement was the first).
K3.2Developing → DevelopingLondon rhyme pattern as a fact: 'abab' at once, 1/1. Open effect question with the cue under it ('what Blake does, then why'), 2-minute limit: 'i don't know' after about 4 minutes. Two-way choice (free or trapped): 'trapped' at once. The effect came at the either/or step, not the open one - tenth supported instance, 0/1 on the open form today.
P1.02Developing → DevelopingStarter cold: 'i wander tho' each charter'd street' - wander, charter'd and street right (wander right on two starters running); 'tho'' for thro' (right on 28 Sep and 1 Oct) and a lower-case i. ABAB given as a fact at once. Effect of the pattern only from a two-way choice ('trapped'). Context still not taught.
K4.2Developing → DevelopingLoose-end check: 'wander' correct in the London first line cold, 1/1, on a second starter running (1 Oct and 6 Oct) after 'wonder' on 22, 28 and 29 Sep. Loose end closed on two clean checks in different sessions.
K6.1Gap → GapCued spellings cold: father right (was 'farther' on 1 and 5 Oct), killed right, 'witch' right but the plural not produced - 3/3 as typed. In the cold London line: 'tho'' for thro', lower-case i. In typed answers: 'lilel' (title), 'etse' (else), 'Thane of cawdor', 'orderd', 'Dukes' with no apostrophe; Browning, Duke and Duchess correct with capitals. The check sentence with Macbeth and Thane of Cawdor was not set. Two messages were dictated and are not counted.
S4.1Gap → Gap'Borrowed robes' asked cold after 1 day, no notes: 'the title belongs to someone else' (typed 'lilel', 'etse') - right first time, 1/1; it needed a two-way choice on 5 Oct. Meaning only: the clothing image as a pattern and its effect were not asked. Stays gap: no unaided effect item yet.
S1.1Developing → Developing'The greatest is behind' asked cold after 1 day, 1-minute limit: 'Thane of cawdor' after about 4 minutes - wrong, the same title she gave first on 5 Oct. King was then told in the marking and not re-asked (deferred to the next Macbeth block). 0/1. No reading of the play today.
